Like a Rock

Another weekend, another adventure.

This time, I made sure to charge the batteries on the camera. Disclaimer: I am no professional photographer, but I do like the ability to manipulate the images more with a traditional (yet still digital) camera versus a phone.

This time, we explored the northern part of Babeldaob island.

The building in this picture is the local elementary school.

We drove a little further to see the stone monoliths. While no one knows for sure, folks believe the main structures of the monoliths once supported a bai (a traditional structure still used today). While the bai no longer stands, the stone structures that held it up are still there. Also around there are other monoliths with faces carved in it. Spirits? Gods? No one is sure.

It’s a short hike to get there, with views aplenty.

They say a picture is worth a thousand words, so I will just leave these here.

Oh, and then a short hike back to the top. Which included my favorite thing, of course.

There’s always stairs.

You may have noticed the title of this post is like a rock. But did you figure out it’s a double meaning? Obviously, we saw the stone monoliths, so we understand the rock there. But there’s a second meaning.

One of our favorite things about Palau – the basketball courts. At every dock, there’s a basketball court, overlooking the ocean. We didn’t set out to find this one, but a random wrong turn turned serendipitous. The court is beautiful, and well maintained. But then we found something else:

Yep, that’s an ocean swimming pool!

True to my word above, I’ll stop talking and let you all enjoy the scenery.

Yep, all that in one place. A boat dock, a swimming pool, and a basketball court.

Anyone want to come play?
